2011 – The Koken Art Factory – Building Shameless
In the beginning, Shameless was without form, and void. We leased a portion of the Koken Art Factory, and had to build it out to become a coffeeshop. In retrospect, we had no idea what we were doing. But it was an adventure for sure. This space was to be our home for only 2 years. In a later gallery, we’ll show you where we moved to.
2011 Cherry Jubilee Grand Opening
After the building, comes the opening and the celebrating! We had a 2-night grand opening party at the Koken Art Factory. All the finest folks were there.
A New Hope
Two years after spending all the time and money to build out a portion of the Koken, the landlord jacked the rent to the moon and backed out of all of his promises, resulting in a sudden and unwelcome new business owner education about contracts and leases. We almost closed. But the owners of what used to be “The Map Room” coffeehouse and wine bar saw our dilemma, and had the perfect new home for us. What’s more, they were, in every way, the perfect and delightful opposite of our previous landlords.
Peoples of Shameless
Mostly employees past and present, with a few regulars and special guests.
